Bridal Lehenga Trends 2027: What the 2026 Runways Tell Us About Next Year's Brides
Our forecast for 2027 brides: lehengas get lighter and easier to move in, red stays but deepens towards wine and maroon, more brides choose a saree for at least one ceremony, and hand embroidery such as zardozi becomes the real mark of luxury. Expect sculpted blouses, embroidered jackets you can wear again, and a distinct look for each function rather than one showpiece. Each trend below is built on what designers showed at India Couture Week and Lakmé Fashion Week in 2026, and on how brides actually dressed this year.
Last year we wrote about the bridal lehenga trends of 2026: lighter fabrics, colours beyond red, the blouse as the hero piece, cape dupattas and handwork over machine work. Most of that held. This is the sequel, and it is a forecast: an informed guess built on sourced signals, not a rulebook.
Where These Signals Come From
The main source is Hyundai India Couture Week 2026, the FDCI's couture week, which ran from 23 to 29 July. It opened for the first time outside Delhi, with Anamika Khanna's show at Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, before moving to Taj Palace in New Delhi. Couture week is where Indian designers show bridal, so it is the best early read on next season. We have also used Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI, held in Delhi from 13 to 18 October 2026. Our Lakmé Fashion Week 2026 recap covers the whole week. We also drew on Sabyasachi's September lehenga collection, one widely reported wedding and WedMeGood's annual survey, crediting each outlet. For trends beyond bridal, see our Indian fashion trends 2027 forecast.
1. Lightness Stops Being a Trend and Becomes the Brief
The signal: At couture week, Tarun Tahiliani's Navaratna presentation at Bikaner House included what the Deccan Chronicle (27 July) described as lightweight contemporary bridal in red. The t2 couture-week guide (2 August) said Arpita Mehta's debut Ceremonial collection was designed for a modern bride who wants to party while staying comfortable. Elle India's front-row report (3 August) put it most plainly. Writing about House of Masaba's brides, the reporter wanted a bride who can move freely and "doesn't need three people to lift her hem at the mehendi".
How it will show up in 2027: In 2026, light was a selling point. In 2027 it will simply be expected. Tissue, organza and fine silks will carry the embroidery, and the heavy work will move to the hem, the blouse and the border instead of covering the whole skirt.

Two of our lehengas already work this way. Bano & Dilruba (₹28,500) is in a soft pistachio-toned silk tissue, with a voluminous flare and a wide border of roses and vines hand-embroidered in sequins and bead work. Ishq-e-Gul & Inara (₹37,500) is in soft tissue jacquard, its panels in pink, gold, peach, ivory and green. Each panel is edged with sequin-lined gota and finished with a gota-patti and marodi border in gold.
2. Red Stays, but It Deepens
The signal: Red never left the runway. Open magazine (28 July) reported that Tahiliani worked in single solid hues: ivory, golden beige, bright red and green. Harper's Bazaar India described Dolly J's bridal collection, BRĀHM, in deep reds, golds and blues. At Lakmé Fashion Week, Suneet Varma's Kashi collection, inspired by Varanasi, used red, purple, maroon and black, according to Outlook Luxe. His showstopper, actor Nitanshi Goel, wore a wine-coloured fishtail lehenga with an attached drape. Elle India noted that Aisha Rao's Priyasi collection, inspired by the idea of the beloved, took romance somewhere other than the usual pink and red.
How it will show up in 2027: We expect the classic bright bridal red to share space with wine, maroon, oxblood and sindoori orange. Ivory and golden beige will be the alternative for day ceremonies.

Rehmat & Vasl (₹42,500) is our heritage red: Varanasi silk brocade with floral motifs drawn from the inlay designs of Rajputana and Mughal architecture, gold zari work all over and a broad gold border at the hem. The matching dupatta is not included. For a warmer red, Raanisa & Mahira (₹35,500) is in sindoori orange woven booti silk, with gota, marodi, bead and thread work along the hem and a pleated lining for volume.
3. The Saree Bride Comes Back
The signal: One of 2026's most widely covered weddings was a saree wedding. Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda married in Udaipur on 26 February 2026, with Telugu and Kodava ceremonies. Outlook Luxe reported that for the morning ceremony Rashmika wore a rust-red saree by Anamika Khanna, with temple-inspired motifs on the border and hand embroidery in antique gold. At their Hyderabad reception on 4 March, Gulf News reported, she wore a red Mysore silk saree with gold detailing. On the runways, saris appeared alongside lehengas in Arpita Mehta's collection and in Roseroom's and JJ Valaya's lines. Suneet Varma showed draped saris at Lakmé Fashion Week.
How it will show up in 2027: We expect more brides to wear a saree for the pheras or the reception, often as a heritage or family piece, with the lehenga saved for the sangeet. Pre-draped and attached-drape styles, like the one Suneet Varma's showstopper wore, will make the change between functions faster.

Sakhi (₹25,000) is a deep sindoori red organza saree, hand-embroidered with sequin, cutdana and gota work. Its bold scalloped border echoes traditional bridal motifs. Zohra (₹39,550) is in soft tissue, with borders hand-embroidered in mirror work, cutdana, sequins and zardozi, tracing floral bel patterns seen in vintage heirloom textiles. The blouse is not included with either saree.
4. Hand Embroidery Becomes the Luxury
The signal: Craft was the strongest thread running through 2026. Rahul Mishra closed couture week with Devi, first shown in Paris that July. His team used zardozi, dabka, crystals and bugle beads to build surfaces that look carved, and the show ended with a small bridal capsule. JJ Valaya's SIDDI used zardozi, aari and dori work. In October, Anushree Reddy's bridal collection MAYA layered zardozi, threadwork, sequins and glass beads. "MAYA is about that feeling of stepping into an illusion, something familiar, yet completely new," she told Outlook Luxe. In September, Outlook Luxe reported that Sabyasachi's new lehengas used zardozi, kantha, badla and other heritage techniques on Benarasi, tissue and other regional textiles.
How it will show up in 2027: Expect brides to ask which techniques went into a piece and how long it took, not just the price. Pieces that layer several hand techniques will be valued over machine sparkle, and so will heritage textiles.

Driti & Hesyra (₹75,000) is in radiant yellow silk. The blouse is hand-embroidered all over with zari, resham, marodi, gota patti, sequins, cutdana, bead and aari work, and the lehenga's scalloped floral border repeats the same techniques at the hem. Nyassa & Elina (₹1,75,000) is in luminous rose tissue. Its structured, cap-sleeved blouse is embroidered all over with zari, marodi, gota patti, sequins, cutdana, bead and aari, and the lehenga has large vertical floral bootas in the same work. Be aware of the time involved: Driti & Hesyra takes 8–12 weeks to make and Nyassa & Elina 8–10 weeks, plus shipping.
5. Structure Moves Into the Blouse
The signal: The t2 couture-week guide said the corset "continued to rule the ramp", naming Roseroom, Arpita Mehta, Jayanti Reddy and Tarun Tahiliani. Tahiliani's Ang bodices were built up with padding and hand construction but stayed soft enough to move in. Falguni Shane Peacock's Le Grand Voyage also included sculpted corsetry.
How it will show up in 2027: We expect the 2026 hero blouse to become a shaped one, structured and fitted, worn with a lighter skirt. A structured blouse only works if it fits, which is where made-to-measure helps: we cut every adult piece to your measurements at no extra charge. Changing a design's construction is a different matter, so ask us on WhatsApp what is possible on the piece you like.
6. The Rewearable Bride: Jackets and Separates
The signal: Elle India (6 August) named the embroidered cocktail blazer couture's breakout trend, seen at Jayanti Reddy, Arpita Mehta, Falguni Shane Peacock, JJ Valaya, Roseroom and Anamika Khanna. "More than a trend, I see it becoming an heirloom piece—something that can be styled for the wedding, then worn again in entirely different ways for years to come," Jayanti Reddy told the magazine. CNN's couture-week report (30 July) noted that more Indians are buying couture for occasions beyond weddings.
How it will show up in 2027: We expect brides to buy at least one piece with a second life in mind, such as a jacket, a blouse that works with a saree, or a set that splits into separates. Our guide to repeatable bridal outfits goes into the thinking.

Raat Rani, Vani & Kiyara (₹16,500) is about as close as we come to the cocktail blazer. It pairs a fitted black Varanasi silk brocade blazer, with an all-over jaal of gold motifs and a hand-embroidered collar, with a dupion silk bustier and wide-leg pants. For a red version, Laalsa & Ravaya (₹73,450) is a front-open vermilion silk jacket with marodi, zari, resham, sequins, cutdana, beads, aari and gota cutwork appliqué, paired with a matching sharara. The jacket alone could later go over a saree.
7. Several Brides in One Wedding
The signal: Outlook Luxe reported that Anushree Reddy's MAYA imagined a woman who sees herself in many forms on her wedding day. Backstage, Lakmé Salon styled three versions of the bride: the Soft Romantic Bride, the Timeless Bride and the Maximal Bride. Harper's Bazaar India called House of Masaba's Chardi Kala the label's first bridal collection. Luxebook described it as blending traditional and resort bridal wear. Arpita Mehta designed for the bride's whole circle. Away from the runway, WedMeGood's 2025–26 industry report (December 2025, over 2,000 couples surveyed) found that 60% of weddings costing ₹1 crore or more are held at a destination, and 89% of destination weddings stay within India.
How it will show up in 2027: We expect fewer brides to build the trousseau around one showpiece and more to plan a distinct look for each function, from soft and romantic for the mehendi to heritage for the pheras to bold for the reception. Many will also coordinate with family. Our bridal lehenga price guide helps with splitting a budget across several pieces.
A Quieter Signal: Natural Fibres
Sustainability was present in 2026 but not dominant at couture level, so we hedge this one. At Lakmé Fashion Week, Ashish N Soni's collection with Arvind Limited, which included bridal looks, used cotton, wool, linen, Tencel and bamboo, according to Outlook Luxe. Harper's Bazaar India noted bio-based materials in Aisha Rao's Priyasi. We think 2027 brides will ask more about fibre and making, but on a smaller scale.
An Honest Note on What We Make for Brides
We are not a big bridal house. We have eight lehengas in our lehenga collection, and our bridal offering is made-to-measure handwork. Every piece is embroidered by karigars in our Jaipur atelier and cut to your measurements at no extra charge. We do not weave: we buy handwoven cloth, such as Varanasi brocade, and embroider it. We do not make velvet or chikankari, both of which appeared on the 2026 runways, and we do not make jewellery or menswear. If you want a saree for the pheras and a lehenga or sharara set for the sangeet, that is where we can genuinely help. Our made-to-order bridal guide explains how the process works.
Timing for a 2027 Wedding
Most of our pieces take 4–5 weeks to make, plus 3–7 days for shipping, so an order placed today, 27 October, arrives around the first week of December at the earliest. Our two most embroidered lehengas take 8–12 and 8–10 weeks, so for a January date, message us before you order. From February 2027 onwards, every piece is comfortably in range. Express making is sometimes possible, depending on the piece and the month: ask on WhatsApp.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the biggest bridal trends for 2027?
Based on the 2026 couture and fashion weeks, we forecast lighter lehengas, deeper reds, more saree brides, layered hand embroidery, structured blouses, rewearable jackets and a distinct look for each function.
Is red still in for 2027 brides?
Yes. Red appeared throughout the 2026 bridal shows, from Tarun Tahiliani's bright red to Suneet Varma's wine and maroon. Expect wine, oxblood and sindoori alongside classic red.
Should I wear a saree or a lehenga for my wedding in 2027?
Either is right, and many brides now wear both. A common split is a saree for the pheras or reception and a lehenga for the sangeet. In 2026, Rashmika Mandanna wore a saree for her Telugu wedding ceremony and another for her reception.
How early should I order a bridal lehenga for a 2027 wedding?
For our pieces, allow 4–5 weeks of making plus 3–7 days of shipping, and 8–12 weeks for our most embroidered lehengas.
Are heavy lehengas going out of style?
Heavy craft is not going anywhere, but heavy weight is. The 2026 shows paired rich handwork with tissue, organza and fine silks, so the bride can still dance.
