Our forecast for Indian fashion in 2027, read from what the 2026 runways and retailers actually showed: handwork that is named and credited, corsetry absorbed into Indian occasion wear, reds that go deeper towards wine and plum, metallics that turn liquid and silver, a cool blue moment, heritage textiles cut into new shapes, collections built around a single place, the layer as the main event, and occasion prêt that works from five o'clock onwards. None of this is certain. Each trend below starts with the signal it comes from, so you can judge it for yourself.

This is the sequel to our Indian fashion trends 2026 report and our shorter 5 trends dominating 2026. Where a 2026 trend (tissue, capes, jewel tones) carries on, we say how it is changing.

Where This Forecast Comes From

We read the signals from India Couture Week 2026 (FDCI, 23–29 July, Delhi), as reported by Harper's Bazaar India, ELLE India, ETV Bharat and FirstLook; from Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI in Mumbai in March and at the Taj Palace, Delhi, from 13 to 18 October 2026; from Myntra's October 2026 festive trend edit and sale results; and from Pinterest Predicts 2026. Our recap of the October shows goes show by show, bridal has its own forecast in bridal lehenga trends 2027, and younger buyers are covered in Gen Z and Indian ethnic wear.

1. Handwork That Gets Named and Credited

The signal: India Couture Week 2026 was framed by Harper's Bazaar India (30 July 2026) as a celebration of "the artisans, the atelier, and the art of couture". House of Rohit Bal's DASTKAR collection was dedicated to artisans and karigars, and Roseroom by Isha Jajodia's debut celebrated women artisans. In October, Ladakh's "The Fifth Season" showcase at Lakmé Fashion Week centred on Pashmina and the herders and women artisans of Changthang, according to the UT Ladakh administration.

How it will show up in 2027: labels naming the technique, and the hands, as a matter of course. "Hand embroidery" alone will start to sound vague. Gota appliqué, marodi, moti and resham, each named, will sound like value.

Our Zehan & Aabha sharara set (₹62,250) is the clearest example we have: a purple silk kurta with a dense trellis of hand-done gota appliqué, each metallic ribbon folded into rhombus and floral shapes, layered with sequins, resham and moti, over a gold tissue sharara.

2. The Corset Moves Into Indian Occasion Wear

The signal: ETV Bharat's roundup of India Couture Week (31 July 2026) named architectural corsets as a headline trend, citing Jayanti Reddy's structured corsets in The Gilded Era and Falguni Shane Peacock's crystal-covered corsets. Harper's Bazaar India noted sculptural corsetry in Roseroom's lace collection, and ELLE India described sculpted corsets in Tarun Tahiliani's Navaratna.

How it will show up in 2027: in 2026 the corset blouse was a talking point. By 2027 we expect it to be a standard option: bustiers under capes, structured bodices under sarees, a strapped top with a sharara.

The Veda & Tishya set (₹18,500) is a yellow silk sweetheart bustier with noodle straps under a silver-grey silk open-front cape, embroidered in gold marodi, zari and resham (shown over a saree, not included). The Mastani, Leyla & Nalini set (₹21,500) pairs a strap bustier with a one-shoulder cape and a sharara in emerald cheniya bandhani jacquard silk woven with gold and silver motifs. Neither is described as a boned corset, so these are the bustier side of the trend, not couture corsetry.

3. Red Goes Deeper: Wine, Plum and Maroon

The signal: FirstLook's colour report on India Couture Week (11 August 2026) said red returned with "unmistakable presence". It pointed to Masaba Gupta's bridal debut making the case for an all-red bridal wardrobe, and to deep reds, golds and wines at Dolly J. In October, Outlook Luxe (16 October 2026) reported that Suneet Varma's Kashi collection at Lakmé Fashion Week worked in red, purple, maroon and black, with the showstopper in a wine strapless fishtail with plum and silver paillettes. Myntra's festive edit the day before listed wine, burgundy and plum among its evening jewel tones.

How it will show up in 2027: our 2026 report called jewel tones. We think 2027 narrows that to the red family and darkens it, for guests as well as brides. Plum is the one to watch: rich, but it doesn't compete with a bride in red.

The Rangrez saree (₹22,500) is deep red chiffon, a colour its description likens to alta on a bride's feet, with bootis in sequins and beads. The Pia blouse (₹14,175) is plum silk with all-over vine motifs in sequins and thread, an open back and a tie-up.

4. Metallics Turn Liquid, and Silver Joins Gold

The signal: reports on Manish Malhotra's Luxury Prêt 2026 show in October, his first at Lakmé Fashion Week in about three and a half years, described liquid-gold and burnished-silver hues with fluid drapes. At India Couture Week, FirstLook singled out Rimzim Dadu's INLAE for reflective silver and molten-looking textures, and Harper's Bazaar India described Jayanti Reddy's collection as layered sequins, metallic threads and refined zardozi.

How it will show up in 2027: tissue was 2026's "it" fabric (see tissue and metallic shimmer). We expect the shine to stay, but to soften: antique and burnished golds rather than bright yellow-gold, silver worn alongside gold, and metallic bases with quieter embroidery on top.

The Taraana saree (₹51,800) reads it well: luminous tissue in a soft antique gold, embroidered in multicolour resham along the border and pallu, with just a thin line of sequins at the border's edge. The fabric does the shining. Blouse not included.

5. A Cool Blue Moment

The signal: "Cool Blue" was one of Pinterest's five fashion predictions for 2026, as reported by Harper's Bazaar Singapore (23 December 2025): glacial, frosty blues replacing warm neutrals. At Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai in March 2026, The Nod Mag (23 March 2026) counted blue and white as a trend of its own, across Péro, Payal Pratap, AFEW by Rahul Mishra, Abraham & Thakore and Pawan Sachdeva. Dolly J's ICW palette included celestial blues, and Myntra's October edit listed both powder blue and midnight blue.

How it will show up in 2027: blue as a proper wedding-guest colour, not just the safe navy: icy powder blues by day, sapphire and midnight at night.

The Ameera & Hoorain kurta set (₹32,500) is the evening end: deep sapphire silk with marodi, resham, sequins, cutdana, bead and aari florals at the neckline and geometric lines on the sleeves and pant hem. For more shades, see our guide to blue Indian outfits.

6. Heritage Textiles, Cut Into New Shapes

The signal: in March 2026, The Nod Mag reported Amit Aggarwal showing draped vintage Benarasi sari gowns with micropleats. At India Couture Week, Harper's Bazaar India noted that Arpita Mehta's debut, Ceremonial, used bandhani, Banarasi and tissue with mirror work. Myntra's 15 October edit put "heritage textiles" (bandhani, Banarasi and tissue) on its list of festive trends, along with chanderi, organza, Jamdani and Maheshwari.

How it will show up in 2027: the same textiles, cut differently: Banarasi and bandhani as anarkalis, draped skirts and gowns, not only sarees. The weave stays traditional, and the cut is what makes it look new.

The Suroor anarkali (₹22,775) is Bandhej Banarasi silk woven with gold bootis, cut into a full-length gathered anarkali with sequin work at the neck and sleeves. A note on how we work: we don't weave. We buy handwoven cloth and embroider it by hand in our Jaipur atelier.

7. One Place, One Collection

The signal: the October Lakmé Fashion Week was full of collections built around a single place. Suneet Varma's Kashi drew on Varanasi from dawn to the evening aarti, and Samant Chauhan's "Where My Home Is?" linked his Bihar childhood with the dunes of Jaisalmer. "The Fifth Season" brought Ladakh's Pashmina to the runway. At India Couture Week, Harper's Bazaar India reported Anamika Khanna's Moonlit Palace drawing on Barmer textiles and Kolkata heritage, and Rimzim Dadu's INLAE on Mughal inlay. Retail agrees: on 27 October 2026 Myntra reported Pujo demand in West Bengal, Assam and Odisha well above its last sale, led by ethnic wear.

How it will show up in 2027: provenance as part of the design story, with buyers asking where an idea comes from as well as what the fabric is. For weddings in two of those places, see our Varanasi and Jaisalmer wedding guides.

Our Ruhaniyat & Amber kurta set (₹37,500) takes the architecture of Mughal pavilions as its muse: a terracotta Chanderi kurta with a waistcoat-style overlay of appliqué and gota, marodi and aari vines and nakshi and moti roses, over an ochre Chanderi churidaar.

8. The Layer Becomes the Outfit

The signal: "statement chogas" led Myntra's 15 October list, worn over salwars, dhoti pants, trousers or palazzos. Suneet Varma's Kashi included jackets alongside draped saris and dhoti skirts. At India Couture Week, Harper's Bazaar India noted dramatic capes in Falguni Shane Peacock's Le Grand Voyage.

How it will show up in 2027: capes and jackets became expected in 2026 (see layering techniques). Next, the embroidery moves to the outer layer: a heavily worked jacket or choga over plain separates, taken off when the dancing starts.

The Laalsa & Ravaya set (₹73,450) puts nearly all its work into the jacket: vermilion silk, front-open, covered in floral jaal in marodi, zari, resham, sequins, cutdana, beads and aari, with gota cut into petals and leaves and appliquéd on. The matching sharara has only fine gota lines. Browse more in our sharara sets.

9. Occasion Prêt That Starts at Five O'Clock

The signal: the October Lakmé Fashion Week grand finale on 18 October was AM.IT, Amit Aggarwal's prêt label, staged with Lakmé as a "5 PM Glam Reset" about moving from the workday into the evening. The collection, On a Day Like Today, was organised around four after-hours personas. Manish Malhotra returned with Luxury Prêt rather than couture.

How it will show up in 2027: more embroidered separates (shirts, trousers, kurta sets) bought for the sangeet and then worn again to dinners and work events, and fewer pieces worn only once.

What We're Not Forecasting

  • Menswear. A big runway story in 2026, from Kunal Rawal's Rawalgarh at ICW onwards, but we don't make menswear, so we leave it to those who do.
  • Barbie pink. Péro opened the October week with a Barbie collaboration of bows, crochet and lace: one delightful collaboration, not yet a pattern.
  • The colour of 2027. Pantone usually names its Colour of the Year in December. For 2026 it chose Cloud Dancer, its first white. We will update this post when the 2027 colour is announced, rather than guess it now.

If You're Buying Into a Trend Now

Everything we make is made to order in Jaipur: 4–5 weeks of making, plus 3–7 days of shipping. Ordered today, late in October 2026, a piece reaches you around the first week of December at the earliest. That is too late for Diwali on 8 November, but comfortable for weddings from mid-December into February, the season these forecasts are really about (the numbers are in the 2026 wedding season in numbers). Custom measurements cost nothing extra. Design changes, such as a different neckline or added sleeves, are not automatic: ask us on WhatsApp what is possible on a particular design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will be the biggest Indian fashion trends in 2027?

Reading India Couture Week and Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI 2026, we forecast credited handwork, bustiers and corsetry, deeper reds, softer metallics with silver, cool blues, heritage textiles in new cuts, place-inspired collections, statement outer layers and evening prêt. It is a forecast, not a certainty.

What colours will be trending in Indian wear in 2027?

The 2026 signals point to deeper reds (wine, maroon and plum), antique and burnished gold with silver, and blue, from icy powder blue to sapphire and midnight. Pantone usually announces its Colour of the Year in December. Its 2026 pick was Cloud Dancer, a white.

Is the corset blouse trend still going to be in style in 2027?

We think so. Corsets were among the most-reported trends at India Couture Week 2026, at Jayanti Reddy, Falguni Shane Peacock, Roseroom and Tarun Tahiliani. We expect structured bodices and bustiers worn under capes, sarees and with shararas to become a standard option rather than a novelty.

Are tissue and metallic fabrics still trending for 2027?

Yes, but softer. Manish Malhotra's October 2026 show was reported in liquid gold and burnished silver, and Rimzim Dadu's couture used reflective silver. We expect antique golds, silver beside gold, and metallic bases with quieter embroidery.

If I order a trend piece now, when will it arrive?

Our pieces are made to order in 4 to 5 weeks plus 3 to 7 days of shipping. An order placed in late October 2026 arrives around the first week of December at the earliest. That is too late for Diwali, but comfortable for weddings from mid-December to February. For an earlier date, ask us on WhatsApp, as express is sometimes possible depending on the piece and the month.
