How Custom Made-to-Order Indian Outfits Work: A Complete Guide

You've found an outfit you love online, but your size isn't listed. Or maybe you want a slightly different neckline, a longer sleeve, or the colour in a deeper shade. This is exactly what made-to-order Indian fashion is built for. Every piece is crafted after you place the order — which means it can be crafted for you.

Here's how the process works, what to expect, and why it's worth the wait.

What Does "Made to Order" Actually Mean?

Made to order means your outfit doesn't exist yet when you order it. There's no warehouse shelf. Instead, your measurements are sent to karigars — master artisans — who cut, stitch, and hand-embroider your piece from scratch. Every bead placement, every zari stitch, every sequin is done by hand, specifically for your garment.

Quick question? WhatsApp us at +91 70423 11214 — we typically respond within a few hours.

At Rashika Mittal, the standard production time is 4–5 weeks. Shipping is additional. This isn't fast fashion — it's slow, intentional craft.

A piece like the Ferozaan & Gulraaz — a floor-grazing Chanderi silk anarkali with Aari and Marodi vine patterns, Gota applique, and pearl detailing — takes weeks of dedicated handwork. Each one is made fresh for the woman who orders it.

What Can Be Customised?

Because everything is made after you order, there's room for personalisation. Common customisation requests include:

  • Size adjustments — custom measurements for a perfect fit
  • Sleeve length — cap sleeves to full-length
  • Neckline changes — V-neck, round, sweetheart, boat neck
  • Length modifications — floor-length to calf-length, or vice versa
  • Colour requests — some pieces can be made in alternate colourways
  • Dupatta additions — adding or removing a dupatta from a set

Not every change is possible on every design (some embroidery patterns are technique-specific), but it's always worth asking.

How to Place a Made-to-Order Outfit

Step 1: Choose your piece. Browse the full collection on the website. Every piece shows the fabric, embroidery details, and price.

Step 2: Share your measurements. After you order, the team will reach out on WhatsApp or email to collect your measurements. If you're unsure how to measure yourself, they'll send a simple guide.

Step 3: Production begins. Your outfit goes into production with the karigars. For most pieces, this takes 4–5 weeks.

Step 4: Quality check and shipping. Before dispatch, every piece is inspected for finish, fit, and embroidery quality. Then it ships to you.

A kurta set like the Saher & Naazli — rose pink silk with mirror work and resham embroidery — takes the same careful production process as a bridal lehenga like the Nyassa & Elina. The difference is in complexity and embroidery density, not in care.

Why Made to Order Is Worth the Wait

There are real advantages to this model beyond customisation:

  • Zero waste. Nothing is produced until it's ordered. No excess inventory, no fabric waste.
  • Perfect fit. Your outfit is made to your measurements, not a standard size chart.
  • Artisan employment. Every order directly supports karigar families in Jaipur.
  • Freshness. Your piece hasn't been sitting in a warehouse. The fabrics are fresh, the embroidery is new.

Planning for an Event? Start Early

The biggest mistake people make with made-to-order fashion is ordering too late. If you have a wedding, engagement, or festive event coming up, work backwards:

  • Production: 4–5 weeks
  • Shipping (India): 5–7 days
  • Shipping (international): 7–14 days
  • Buffer for alterations: 1 week

That means you should ideally order 6–8 weeks before your event. For bridal outfits with heavy embroidery, start even earlier.

A piece like the Driti & Hesyra — a yellow silk lehenga with zari, resham, gota patti, and aari work — involves multiple artisans and techniques. Give the karigars the time they need to do their best work.
