Jungle Resort Wedding Outfit Ideas: What to Wear in Corbett, Ranthambore and Kabini
For a wedding at a jungle resort, pack two wardrobes. On the safari, wear what the parks ask for: khaki, olive, brown, grey and other dull colours, in layers, because a winter dawn in an open jeep is cold. At the functions, do the opposite and wear colour that stands out against green, such as rani pink, magenta, yellow, red, and navy or black at night. Choose pants, churidaars or ankle-length hems for lawns at dusk, when the insects come out, and block heels or flats for grass. Most of the season runs from October to June, and the wedding weeks cluster in the cool months.
We work in Jaipur, a few hours' drive from Ranthambore. This guide covers what is particular to wildlife weekends: the safari rules, cold mornings, dust, mosquitoes, and a backdrop that is all leaves. For sand and sea, see our Goa beach wedding guide. For altitude and mist, see the hill station guide.
Where Jungle Weddings Happen
The resorts sit outside the parks, along the forest edge, and the safari is a drive away. We name areas here, not venues.
- Jim Corbett, Uttarakhand. Most wedding resorts are around Ramnagar, many of them along the Kosi river at Dhikuli. Tourism and booking sites list the main safari zones as Dhikala, opening on 15 November, and Bijrani, open from 15 October to 30 June. Jhirna and Dhela stay open all year. Ramnagar averages roughly 21°C by day and 8°C at night in December, and about 19°C and 6–7°C in January.
- Ranthambore, Rajasthan. Weddings are held around Sawai Madhopur. The core zones, 1 to 5, close for the monsoon from 1 July to 30 September, while buffer zones 6 to 10 stay open. Ranthambore Fort stands inside the park and is part of the UNESCO-listed Hill Forts of Rajasthan, with the Trinetra Ganesh temple inside its walls. January averages about 22–24°C by day and 7–9°C at night. The park is dry deciduous forest, so the tracks are dusty.
- Kabini, Karnataka. The Kabini reservoir separates Nagarhole from Bandipur. It is about 60 km from Mysuru and a little over 200 km from Bengaluru. Kabini is widely reported to stay open through the year, with boat safaris on the backwaters as well as jeeps. Its winter is far milder than the north's.
- Kanha and Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh. Core zones close from 1 July. Sources differ on whether they reopen on 1 or 15 October, so check before you book. Several booking sites also say there is no afternoon safari on Wednesdays. Ask your resort.
Whichever park it is, the pattern is the same. The family plans one or two safaris for guests, usually at dawn. The functions happen on resort lawns, by a pool or a river, and the evenings end around a bonfire. Plan for each of those three settings.
The Safari: Dress Like the Forest
This is the one part of the weekend with an actual rule. The Corbett Tiger Reserve's own do's and don'ts advise visitors to wear "clothes of colours which merge with the natural surroundings (khaki, olive green, other dull colours)", and they note that bright colours alarm animals. Guidance drawn from the National Tiger Conservation Authority says the same: muted olive, brown, beige and grey, layers, comfortable trousers, closed shoes and a cap, and no bright or reflective clothing or strong perfume.
- Leave the festive wear at the resort. Sequins and zari catch the light, which is exactly what the guidance asks you to avoid. Nobody wants a hand-embroidered kurta coated in jeep dust before the mehendi.
- Layer for the start, not the middle. Early drives are cold, especially in northern and central India, and it warms up fast once the sun is high. Wear a fleece or jacket over a light shirt, and a scarf you can pull over your nose and mouth when the dust rises.
- Skip the perfume on safari mornings. Save it for the evening, and spray it before you dress, not onto silk.
If you would like one piece from us for these mornings, the Linen Crossover Shirt (₹2,990) is cut from pure handwoven linen in a natural sand tone. It has a camp collar, short sleeves, and a wrap front held by a single covered button, with tonal hand-finished stitching along the edge. Wear it under your jacket for the drive and on its own for the brunch afterwards. The sleeves are short, so add a light layer against the sun.
The Functions: Dress Against the Forest
Once you are back at the resort, the logic flips. A lawn ringed by sal, teak or bamboo is a wall of green, and greens, olives and khakis vanish into it in photographs. Colour opposite green on the wheel does the most work:
- Pinks and magentas are the strongest contrast to foliage, from rani pink to fuchsia.
- Yellow, mustard and orange look warm against leaves in daylight. This is the setting for the haldi.
- Red and crimson stand out at any hour. At the ceremony, red is the bride's, so check with the family.
- Navy, black and deep plum work best after dark, against firelight and lanterns.
- Earth tones such as cinnamon, terracotta and ochre are the exception. They sit with the forest rather than vanishing into it, which suits a relaxed lunch.
Mosquitoes, Lawns and Dew
Three practical things a city wedding does not prepare you for:
- Insects at dusk. A lawn by a river or forest edge brings mosquitoes as the light goes. Covered legs help more than anything else, so pants, churidaars and shararas are a better choice than a short kurta over bare ankles. Put repellent on your skin before you dress, keep it off the embroidery, and carry a dupatta to throw over your arms.
- Grass and heels. Stilettos sink into a lawn. Block heels, wedges or juttis are the answer. Our footwear guide covers the options.
- Hems. A trailing lehenga on a winter lawn picks up grass, mud and dew. We cut every adult piece to your measurements at no extra charge, so ask for an ankle-length hem on anything meant for the lawn.
Outfits by Function
Welcome lunch or post-safari brunch
Relaxed, outdoors, and often straight after the drive. This is where earthy colour belongs. The Heeriye anarkali with Reva churidaar (₹19,500) is rich cinnamon-brown chanderi, light but structured, with resham, cutdana and sequin florals on the yoke and long embroidered panels through the flare. The contrast border in scarlet and ivory recalls vintage Sindhi motifs, and the churidaar keeps your legs covered.

The Ruhaniyat kurta with Amber churidaar (₹37,500) is terracotta chanderi with a waistcoat-style overlay in fabric appliqué and gota, a trellis of vines in marodi and aari, and rose motifs in nakshi and moti. The churidaar is contrasting ochre chanderi, and the terracotta-and-ochre pairing is about as close to the forest floor as festive dressing gets. For something quieter, the Darya kurta with Keya pant (₹20,175) is champagne-taupe silk, with magenta-pink florals and golden vines in zari, sequins and cutdana at the neckline and sleeve hems.
Haldi and mehendi on the lawn
Daylight, grass and greenery behind every photograph, so this is the time for colour. The Zuhra kurta with Reha pant (₹28,450) is sunshine-yellow chanderi covered in hot pink and orange resham bouquets, with aari, sequins, beads and nakshi. The Roshni kurta with Nazreen sharara (₹31,800) is mustard yellow chanderi with an aari trellis and soft pink resham florals over a blossom pink chanderi sharara. Have the sharara cut to the ankle for the lawn. The Jiya kurta with Eshna pant (₹29,500) is fuchsia silk with a marodi yoke, over papaya orange straight pants, with fuchsia tassels at the side slits. Pink against green is the strongest contrast in this whole guide. Our mehndi colour guide has more.

The sangeet or bonfire night
Resorts light bonfires on their own grounds. Corbett's rules prohibit lighting any fire inside the reserve itself. The temperature drops as the evening goes on, the insects are out, and the light comes from flames and lanterns. Black with gold is the most striking thing you can wear. The Raat Rani blazer with Vani bustier and Kiyara pants (₹16,500) is black Varanasi silk brocade with an all-over jaal of gold motifs, made as a fitted blazer with a hand-embroidered collar over a dupion silk bustier and wide-leg pants. It is a real layer, with covered legs and no hem to drag across the grass. The Ayesha kurta with Mehr pant (₹28,500) is deep black silk with jaali-inspired borders in marodi, sequins and thread work, and a medallion at the back framed in plum silk, drawn from royal insignia on vintage Rajasthani garments. Add a good shawl and you are set for the night.

The wedding and the reception
These are often held at night on a lawn or by the water, sometimes in a banquet hall. For a reception where red is welcome, the Laalsa jacket with Ravaya sharara (₹73,450) has warmth built in. It is vermilion silk, and the front-open jacket is covered in floral and botanical jaal in marodi, zari, resham, sequins, cutdana, beads and aari, with cut gota appliquéd into petals and leaves. It needs no shawl.

As a guest at the pheras, the Tara kurta with Pari pant (₹21,175) is deep navy satin with a contrast magenta yoke and ice-blue and peach florals in resham, sequins and beads. The pant has a scalloped hem. If you would rather wear a sari, the Ranjha saree (₹16,695) is plum georgette with diagonal scalloped lines and floral jaals in antique gold and muted ruby. Georgette is forgiving on a breezy lawn. The blouse is not included, and you will want a shawl after dark.
What We Make, and What We Don't
We hand-embroider kurta sets, sharara sets, anarkalis, lehengas, sarees and dupattas in our Jaipur atelier. We do not weave: the brocades, chanderis and silks above are handwoven cloth we buy and then embroider. We do not make safari jackets, shawls, velvet, footwear or jewellery. For the jeep, your own fleece and cap are right. For the bonfire, a pashmina or fine wool shawl chosen to match is the best layer. Our winter wedding guide covers fabrics for the cold.
Four Practical Notes
- Pack each outfit in its own cloth bag. Jeeps and forest tracks are dusty, and dust settles into embroidery. Shake it out gently rather than rubbing.
- Book the safari with the family's plan, not your own. Permits are limited and zones book out. Ask whether the drive is at dawn or in the afternoon, and dress for it.
- Compare climates before you pack. A Corbett or Ranthambore December is a different trip from a Kabini one. Our Jaisalmer guide covers the same day-night swing in the desert, and the destination packing guide covers the rest of the case.
- Order now for December and later. Everything we make takes 4–5 weeks, plus 3–7 days to ship. Ordered today, a piece reaches you around the end of November or in the first week of December at the earliest. That rules out a November wedding, and December to February is comfortable. Express is sometimes possible, depending on the piece and the month, so ask on WhatsApp. Our ordering-early guide has the calendar.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should a guest wear to a jungle resort wedding?
Pack two sets of clothes. For the safari, wear muted khaki, olive, brown or grey in layers, with closed shoes. For the functions, choose colours that stand out against green, such as pink, magenta, yellow, red, and navy or black at night. Pants, churidaars or ankle-length shararas are best on lawns at dusk, with block heels or flats.
What colours should I avoid on a tiger safari?
Avoid bright and reflective clothing. Corbett Tiger Reserve advises clothes that merge with the surroundings, such as khaki, olive green and other dull colours, and notes that bright colours alarm animals. Skip strong perfume too, and leave sequinned or zari pieces at the resort.
When are Corbett and Ranthambore open for safaris?
In Corbett, tourism sites list Bijrani as open from 15 October to 30 June and Dhikala as opening on 15 November, while Jhirna and Dhela stay open all year. Ranthambore's core zones 1 to 5 close from 1 July to 30 September, and buffer zones 6 to 10 stay open. Always confirm with the park booking site or your resort.
How cold is a winter morning safari in Corbett or Ranthambore?
Cold enough for a proper jacket. Ramnagar near Corbett averages about 6–8°C at night in December and January, and Sawai Madhopur near Ranthambore about 7–9°C in January. In an open jeep at dawn it feels colder, so wear a fleece, a scarf and a cap, and peel off layers as the day warms up.
How do I deal with mosquitoes at an outdoor jungle wedding?
Cover your legs. Pants, churidaars and ankle-length shararas protect far better than a short kurta over bare ankles. Put repellent on your skin before you dress, keep it off silk and embroidery, and carry a dupatta or shawl to cover your arms after dark.
